Interview with Racing Legend Alastair Seeley

Interview with Northern Ireland's Alastair Seeley

With over 15 year’s experience behind him, Alastair Seeley has made a significant mark on the motor racing circuit over the years. His wins include a record breaking 18thwin at the Vauxhall International Northwest 200 this year, and countless wins at British, Irish and European championships over the course of his career. The racer is certainly making Northern Ireland proud and Electric Ireland NI team were delighted to catch up with the racing star ahead of the Ulster Gran Prix this month.

A Chat with Racing Star Alastair Seeley

Hailing from Carrickfergus and nicknamed the “wee wizard”, Alastair Seeley has become a bit of a legend in the British and Irish motor racing world. And, in doing so, it seems he has managed to successfully combine his two main passions in life, racing and family: “I love the whole buzz of racing. It’s a family affair, with my fiancé, Dani, our four month old daughter, Olivia, and son, Lewis (when he is not at school) all coming along…” He adds, “I also love winning races!”

Northwest 200

The Northwest 200, an event Alastair has managed to win a race at every year since his first win in 2008, has become a firm favourite of the racer. What’s more, when we spoke to him, there was no sign of him wanting to give up his title any time soon!

“To be called the record holder is an honour and I hope to add to my wins to keep my name etched in the record books for a long time.”

Why the Northwest 200?

“I never actually wanted to go down the road racing route. I wanted to go down the short circuit route and chose the North West 200 as the only race that I would do,” he says.

Looking Ahead

With his full-time employment within the British Super Bikes (BSB) and a series of consecutive wins, it seems like the racer couldn’t be in a better place.

“BSB is my bread and butter. I’m fortunate enough to be getting a salary at BSB from my current team.”

Racing aside, we wondered what Alastair gets up to when he isn’t on a motorbike and whizzing around the circuits. I’m busy changing nappies and feeding Olivia. I like to chill with family and do the “Dad” thing,” he says.

A Strong Support Network

Alastair joked with us about his “entourage” but he has certainly acquired a strong following, especially when you see the mass of followers he has built up on social media and thousands cheering him on from the sidelines.

“I have such good loyal sponsors, supporters and a close network of friends.” He adds, “It’s great to start a relationship with Electric Ireland NI and I hope it can continue for a number of years. I often call in on the Electric Ireland NI stands at various festivals and do some signings or show my face as part of the appreciation for all the support Electric Ireland NI has given me.”
