1. Ink stain remover

According to One Good Thing by Jillee, all that is needed to remove an ink stain is either a squirt of hairspray or hand sanitizer on an item of clothing.  This is surely music to many ears, especially those with little ones who are prone to using their clothes as colouring books!

2. Fresh and soft

If you like the idea of having beautifully smelling clothes at a small cost, then blogger Clean Mama has your back.  Her DIY recipe for fresh and soft clothes is not only cost-effective but also brimming with natural ingredients.  It’s a win-win.

3. Grease buster

Another stain that many do battle with is grease but the good news is that there is a great way to get rid of this unwelcome stain too: start by dabbing either chalk or talcum powder on the stain; leave it for a few minutes; then put the item through a quick wash to wash away any residue.

4. Red wine spill

It’s your worst nightmare: red wine spillage all over your white trousers or beloved cream carpet.  However, never fear as there are a few well-tested ways to make sure this stain is only temporary.  Salt is often a first port of call for a red wine spill but needs to be done immediately to be of any use.  Alternatively, either soda water or white wine is an effective way to remove a stain that has already dried.

5. Whiter than white

Whiter than white

Two words for you: Baking soda. This is a must-have item in any household as it has so many great uses, including keeping any whites stain-free. Simply add a scoop of baking soda to water to make a paste then spread it on the stained area and rinse thoroughly afterwards.

6. Keep clothes longer

A sure-fire way of keeping clothes for longer is, where possible, spot clean them, as opposed to putting them through a harsher wash.  That way you will not only be saving money on new clothes but also reducing the cost of using your machine wash.

7. Save on dryer sheets

Instead of forking out on dryer sheets, try crumpling up a small bit of tinfoil into a ball as this will do the same job.  Go one step further and add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to the ball for a lasting scent.

8. Hang and dry

When drying shirts, dresses or other crinkly items, make sure to put them on hangers to lessen creases to avoid having to iron everything.

9. Shrunken clothes

There is nothing more frustrating than taking clothes out of the dryer to discover they have     gone down a few sizes.  Thankfully, it is possible to go back in time and restore items. Click here to follow a tried and tested formula involving conditioner and water (yes, this does really work!)
