The days are longer, the sun stronger and the flowers are in full colour – it must be summer! To celebrate the change of season, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite activities and events for families, friends or solo adventures in the great outdoors.
1). Sundays on the Maritime Mile
If you enjoy live music and scenic strolls, then you’ll love Sundays on the Maritime Mile. With live music every Sunday throughout May & August, it’s a great opportunity for families and couples to get out and about. To keep your trip to the city on a budget, why not bring a picnic and soak up the atmosphere by the Lagan?
2). St James Community Farm
For a fun-filled day out for the whole family, look no further than St James’ Community Farm. As West Belfast’s first urban farm, you can check out the wide variety of animals and even pet the ones that don’t bite!
3). Every Voice Festival Derry/Londonderry
Take a trip to Derry/Londonderry this June for the Every Voice Festival. With music, workshops, pop-up performances and community events, it's sure to be a fun-filled day for the whole family. If you'd like to get involved in the event itself, you can take part in the Every Voice festival Chorus by contacting the organisers.
4). Antrim Castle Gardens
If you prefer to explore the great outdoors, look no further than Antrim Castle Gardens. Walk around the stunning river-side garden with the kids or take an audio or walking tour to hear about the history of the grounds. Known as ‘one of the most unique and historically intact gardens’ in the UK, you won’t be disappointed with this beauty.
5). Beaches
We can’t finish our round-up of free family outings without mentioning our glorious beaches. With some of the best beaches in Europe boasting mountain, cave and temple views, we are pretty lucky! From Downhill and Benone Strand to Murlough, Castlerock, Whitepark Bay and so many more, it’s time to get out and explore.
