Electric Ireland announces electricity price increase effective from 1st Jan 2023
Electric Ireland has today, (8th December 2022), announced plans to increase its residential electricity bills in Northern Ireland by 23.9 per cent with effect from 1st Jan 2023. This equates to an increase of approximately £5.62 per week on the average residential electricity bill.
Bill Coyle, Head of Residential Northern Ireland, Electric Ireland commented: “Increases in our wholesale electricity costs, driven by substantial rises in international wholesale energy prices as a result of the ongoing energy crisis, have necessitated an increase to our residential tariff from 1st January next year.”
He continues: “While we know this news is disappointing, we have written to our customers and advised them this increase is necessary and assured them we have tried to keep prices as low as possible.”
“We realise that the continuing cost of living crisis will make it difficult for some customers to pay their energy bill. Electric Ireland is committed to providing practical and tangible support to our vulnerable customers during these challenging times. We encourage any of our customers who are having difficulty to contact our customer care team or refer to the customer hub on our website.”
Electric Ireland’s customer care team works closely with a number of organisations including Age NI, Advice NI and National Energy Action who can also provide support for energy users during these difficult times.
