More and more businesses are becoming increasingly aware of their own environmental and societal impacts for a sustainable future. Recognising the importance of sustainable development, impact of climate change and being committed to good corporate governance is an essential part of the process.

The Business in the Community (BITC) Northern Ireland Impact Awards is the ultimate recognition for those businesses in Northern Ireland driving innovation and pushing the boundaries of sustainable business. Sponsored by Electric Ireland, the Responsible Business Awards in Northern Ireland will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, celebrating local programmes and stories.

Corporate responsibility is a key differentiator for organisations of all sizes and across all sectors, particularly in the current climate and through supporting the awards, we can continue to inspire and encourage businesses to learn from one another, grow and develop to reap huge rewards.

Electric Ireland and the Connections Plus Programme

As environmental challenges become more global in scale, the integration of sustainable business practices will play a vital role in helping organisations drive growth and expansion.

Over the past two years, Electric Ireland has supported the BITC NI Connections Plus Programme which aims to promote responsible business growth amongst Small & Medium Enterprises in Northern Ireland. To date, 1,500 Northern Ireland SMEs have received a significant boost with the help of Connections Plus through Electric Ireland’s support which enables SMEs to gain vital support from a business mentor free of charge, help with environmental audits and access to a range of best practices seminars and events.

The three-year programme has provided support to SMEs through best practice seminars, supplier development programmes and strategic business advice to help companies grow more responsibly, educating them on how to make smarter energy choices and control their energy usage in a more sustainable and responsible way.
