Moving out and closing your account

If you are moving out and want to close your account, you need to contact us.
Otherwise, you may be liable for electricity charges at your old address after you have left.

You should contact us on the day of the move (or the following Monday if you are moving at the weekend)

You need to call our customer service team on 0345 600 5335 or if you are calling from the Republic of Ireland please call 0044 345 600 5335, and have the following information to hand:

  • Name on account
  • Electric Ireland account number
  • MPRN.
  • The final meter reading. (How to read your meter)
  • The forwarding address for your final bill
  • The new occupant's name and phone number (if available)


Pay As You Go Keypad meter customers

If you are moving house, please let us know that you are leaving and provide a meter reading and details of any credit left on the meter.
You can call our customer service team at 0345 600 5335 or 0044 345 600 5335 if you are calling from the Republic of Ireland. You’ll find the contact details on your Pay As You Go Electricity Card.

Try to avoid topping-up more than you need to, if you are arranging to move out.
Leave your Pay As You Go Electricity Card at your old address, as the Pay As You Go Electricity Card is property locked and can therefore be used for one property only.
