Transferring to Power NI
Electric Ireland customers: transfer of electricity supply to Power NI
In May 2024, Electric Ireland announced its decision to withdraw from the Northern Ireland residential electricity market. Since then, we have worked closely with industry partners to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for all customers.
We entered into an agreement with Power NI, which allowed for the orderly transfer of the majority of our residential customers to Power NI.
All remaining Electric Ireland Residential Credit and Keypad customers will be automatically transferred to Power NI on 31 May 2026. After this date, Electric Ireland will no longer supply electricity to any Northern Ireland residential customers, and all residential contracts will end at the time of transfer.
What does this mean for you?
On 31 May 2026, your electricity supply will automatically transfer from Electric Ireland to Power NI.
After this date, Electric Ireland will no longer supply electricity to residential customers in Northern Ireland.
You will move onto Power NI’s regulated tariff, which is set by the Utility Regulator.
Do I need to do anything?
- No action is needed if you are a credit Customer and happy to move to Power NI—your supply will continue as normal. (If you are a Keypad Customer – please read the next section)
- If you do not wish to move to Power NI, you must switch to another electricity supplier. You must begin the switching process by 24 April 2026. The switch must be completed before 31 May 2026. If you do not switch by these dates, your supply will be transferred automatically to Power NI.
Keypad Customers – Important: You Will Need a New Keypad Number
