Launch of Darkness Into Light 2018

Wake Up and Walk From Darkness Into Light - Saturday 12th May

Darkness Into LightDarkness Into Light launched this week, inviting us to Wake up and Walk from Darkness Into Light on Saturday 12th May at different locations in Northern Ireland, and beyond.

Electric Ireland and Pieta House, the organisers of Darkness Into Light, have joined together to de-stigmatise suicide and self-harm and promote a message of hope. The Darkness Into Light walk emphasises that how we treat each other can often be a matter of life and death. The event encourages us as a society to be kind to one another to make the world a more positive place.

Why You Should Wake Up and Walk

Darkness Into Light has become much more than a fundraiser; it is now a global movement which touches the hearts and minds of people around the world with over 180,000 participants taking part last year.

Brian Higgins, CEO of Pieta House explained why the event is so important to the charities' work:

"Thanks to the generosity of all our participants and supporters, all of our services and those of our Northern Ireland charity partners remain accessible to all. We all need to wake up to the stigmas that lead people to the point of self-harm or suicidal crisis."

Kindness and hope

The nature of the walk from the dark of night into the sunrise in the morning symbolises the hope in the darkness for many people.

Claire McAllister, Sales & Marketing Manager Electric Ireland, Northern Ireland, said:

The message of kindness and hope which is delivered through the Darkness Into Light walk is one of great importance.  We are very proud to support the walk and the beneficiary charities in the vital work they do every day of the year.  This campaign reflects our values as an organisation and our determination to continue to support the communities in which we live and operate in.”
